Fungal Nail Treatment
Toenail fungus is a common condition that starts as a white or yellow spot under the nail. As the infection spreads deeper, it begins to cause the toe to become discolored, thicken, and crumble towards the edge of the nail. Nail fungus can spread and even effect several nails. What is Fungal Nail Treatment?
We use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to safely deliver medical grade treatments to diminish fungus and improve nail health and appearance. During treatment, we deliver light and heat into the nail. This is effective at targeting and killing the virus that is causing the fungal infection. Our IPL fungal nail sessions are virtually pain-free, depending on the individual sensitivity of each patient. Our specialized system is safe for treating all skin types and fungal nails.
Benefits of our Fungal Nail Treatment
Laser treatment for toenail fungus is the sure-fire way to clear up the unsightly appearance brought on by the fungus and return your feet to their normal appearance. Dr. Dunn uses the latest in laser technology (HyperBlue® laser treatments) to penetrate beneath the surface of your toenail and kill the underlying fungus without causing any damage to the surrounding areas of the toe or nail. Each laser session only lasts 10 minutes, and the procedure is pain-free. It usually only takes three or four treatments to completely solve the problem, and there is no recovery time after each session.
Laser treatment will completely destroy the fungus under your nails and stop it from spreading. Once your nail grows out, it will return to its original, natural, and healthy clear appearance.
Treatment
An initial consultation is firsts required prior to treatment. At your consultation we will explain how everything works, what it means for you, the treatment protocol and discuss pricing. Once we have determined that there are no contraindications relating to your treatment we can usually start right away. Prior to beginning treatment, the nails are cleaned and filed flat. A cooling IPL Gel is applied in order to protect the nail and surrounding skin. The IPL device is then held to the targeted area, the system then works to deliver the IPL energy to the nail. There is minimal discomfort associated with the treatment process. However, if you find it too uncomfortable, we will ice the area to avoid any discomfort. Following treatment, your damaged nail will grow out leaving a new healthy nail in around nine to 12 months. You should see the damaged nail reducing as this happens.
Advice
It is advisable to have your shoes sterilized and purchase a supply of new socks – enough to change into a freshly laundered pair at least once every day. You should also be sure to keep your feet dry and sanitized between cleansing (bathing or showering) especially if you suffer from excessive sweating of the feet. A minimum of 8 to 10 sessions, spaced 2 weeks apart is typically suggested in order to achieve optimal results. After your 8 to 10 sessions the affected nails should be tested to see if the fungus has been killed. With this simple and effective treatment, you can reclaim the health and appearance of your nails.
